Line Rederivation

Service Description
The purpose of this service is to rederive mouse lines that are in danger of being lost, for a number of reasons. Approval for transfer of the mice to the centers facility must be granted by the Animal Resources Centre of the institute providing the service. Depending on disease status mice are housed in a flexible film isolator or a quarantine room. Supplemental costs apply the following: i) Maintenance charges for the time that the mice are in the quarantined area; and ii) Screening of the resultant, rederived pups for bacteria, viruses, etc.,

Service includes:

  • Mating the infected males with wt females from our colony ;
  • Harvesting of embryos from these females ;
  • Transfer of fertilized embryos into clean recipient females (from our colony) ;
  • Tail cutting of pups produced and their weaning ;
  • Maintenance of the mice until they are 6 weeks old, at which time one of the pups will be analyzed ;
  • Transfer of rederived mice to investigator.

Responsibility of the Investigator

  • Supply the mice for rederivation (preferably 3-5 males no more than 4 months old).
  • Genotyping of the resultant, rederived pups.
  • Cage charges in our clean room until the time that they are transferred to the investigator.
